Empowering Rural Families through Natural Farming & Local Governance
We empower small and marginal farmers, especially women, to transition from chemical-heavy agriculture to climate-resilient, chemical-free and bio-inputs Natural Farming. By combining traditional wisdom with local governance (Panchayat and Gram Sabha) through Sakhi Manch (Women’s Forums), we ensure long-term food security and economic independence.
Rural livelihoods in Central India are increasingly threatened by soil degradation and rising input costs. Samavesh addresses this by promoting a holistic, low-cost natural farming ecosystem that restores soil health while securing the farmer’s pocket.
Three Main Pillars
1. Climate-Smart Natural Farming
We provide hands-on training and support to farmers in Natural Farming, multi-layer farming, crop diversification, and the use of bio-inputs. By establishing Bio-input Resource Centres at village level, we are creating a resilient eco-system for natural farming. We also promote crop diversification and local indigenous seed varieties through Local Seed Banks — preserving drought-resistant varieties that reduce dependency on expensive commercial seeds.
2. Allied Livelihood Diversification
To ensure year-round income, we support integrated activities such as Backyard Poultry, Goat Rearing, Multi-layer farming and Micro-orchards on very small land holding. These “small-scale, high-impact” ventures act as a safety net against crop failure.
3. Strengthening Grassroots Governance
Economic change is only sustainable when backed by social power. We organise women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and village-level forums called Sakhi Manch. These women actively participate in Panchayat (Local Government) meetings, ensuring that village development plans include the needs of the most marginalised and focus on the judicious use of natural resources.
The Impact
- Economic Stability: Significant reduction in farming input costs (fertilizers/pesticides) and increased profit margins through diversified income streams.
- Environmental Restoration: Improved soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation through natural practices.
- Women’s Leadership: Transitioning women from labourers to decision-makers who lead their local Panchayats and govern community resources.
